With a target of over 432,000 immigrants as recently released by Canada; and even higher target projections for 2023 and 2024, immigrating to Canada has never been easier: Supplementary Information for the 2022-2024 Immigration Levels Plan.

However, though Canada needs immigrants, be very aware of the unscrupulous entities who tell you that everyone has a near perfect chance and the faster you pay their fees the quicker they can commence your application.

Allow me to explain Canada’s immigration in a nutshell by using an analogy.

Liken Canada to a big corporation. The corporation has resources and needs to grow. How do they propose to do this?

(1) Through active investors. You invest in the corporation, and you have an active interest in the corporation.

Back to Canada. There are Economic Immigration Programmes (under the Economic Classes) both at Federal and Provincial levels. Put it simply you invest in Canada and the Government is willing to review your application to come to Canada.

Examples:  Business Economic Programme -Investor and SINP (in the Province of Saskatchewan) -Entrepreneur

(2) Through employment. The corporation needs to fill vacant job positions in demand and once you fill those job requirements you are hired (also under the Economic Classes).

Back to Canada. There are Occupation Programmes that are geared to attract certain expertise that are in demand in Canada. You must determine your National Occupational Classification (NOC) and access the right programme that best suits your skills.

Examples: Federal Skilled Trades and MPNP (in the Province of Manitoba) -In Demand Occupation

For more programmes visit Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Economic Classes or the various websites for the Provinces or Territories, Provincial Nomination Programme (PNP)

(3) Through relationships. The corporation favours close relatives (it’s just a reality, deal with it).

Back to Canada. There are various Sponsorship Programmes that allow close relatives who are permanent residents in Canada to sponsor family members to immigrate to Canada. Most of the relationships are clearly defined.

Examples: Sponsor your Relatives and Sponsor your Parents or Grandparents.

For more information visit Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Family Sponsorship.

Even though it’s frequently seen that it’s easy to come to Canada, you generally must fit within any of the above categories. Think about it, if you own a corporation would you want anyone in your corporation who adds no value? Or free loaders? If you bring something to the table then you have a real chance.
